The new update 1.4.18 of Caverns and Dryads on Steam includes two exciting features: Bestiary and Lore!
See news on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/3634870/view/499466596943659622
The map now has a button of a scroll with the letters "DLC" in it: (between the cog of options and the backpack)
You can also open the DLC scene that will give access to Bestiary and Lore from the same icon during combat: (besides the backpack)
Then you will see this (the Bestiary may be grayed out if you didn't buy the DLC yet, but the Lore is included for all players for free):
The Lore screen now has only two entries, one for the dryads, and another one for Subterranea. As you play the game, you may uncover more lore! There may be a DLC in a far future to uncover it all, but the normal way to read it is to play the adventures so in some special moments, an entry will be unlocked.
The lore main screen has instructions on how to use it, and an invocation poem, inspired in the way Homer introduced the Iliad and similar poems of the ancient world.
The ivy leaves that grow in the cave represent the Dryads, and specially, Tamzyn.
Once you click a letter, you see a thumb of lore articles that begin with that letter. Here we pressed the "D" and we see the dryad image. On the bottom we see the name of the entry.
Then once you click the image, you can read the lore of that item. On the bottom of the text you will see a "previous" and "next" buttons to flip the pages, and in the center a text that tells you in which page you are and how many they are (here 1 of 8 pages). By clicking the "close" button you return to the Lore's main screen.
And here's the Bestiary DLC! As you can see, there is an invocation poem and the list of letters, that in this case they are many because there are more than 110 monsters in the game.
It works the same way. You click a letter, then you can see the images and hover on them to see the name of the monster at the bottom of the screen.
There are entries with details and lore of the monster. Some are several pages and others much shorter. When it's long, it reveals some details of the history of the Chasm.
I've written secrets, hints, several characters that will appear in the game and act as narrators, like Tortuato the Thin or Thomayasul the Sacred Necromancer, or the sage, Somon of Grottohaven.
I think hardcore players will love this!
Boss monsters that play important chapters in the game are also in the Bestiary. They reveal themselves with all their powers and attacks, and let you see a glimpse of their power and part in the global story!
Hope you enjoy this update, the Lore, and if you get it, the Bestiary DLC!
Thanks for playing! You are the heroes of this story! :)
