Major Release 2.0 and on being a solo developer
I have finished testing version 2.0 of Caverns and Dryads, my game on Steam. This is a major release that includes the story of how Tamzyn and Sioul manage to enter the Emerald City.
This story will also be the core of the first part of the novel (although the book will include additional episodes). I envision the novel in four parts, filled with adventure, romance, epic moments, and all the elements proper to fantasy. All of this will also make its way into the game.
I can’t wait to publish the game’s release. It will launch this Thursday on Steam!
ON BEING A SOLO DEVELOPER
I wanted to share with you what this means. Let’s talk in this cavern, where no one can hear us. Come closer, closer.
Being a solo developer is not about being all-powerful, nor being a genius. It is about having a vision.
And that vision is more important than yourself. More important than the difficulties. More than the problems.
Maybe you are a solo developer because you don’t have enough money. Or because no one is excited about your idea except you.
Or, beyond all that, because you have seen something that needs to be created, and that might matter to others.
And then you create, you invoke, you imagine. You code, you draw, you design. And everything materializes because if you don’t do it, no one will. And that world you are creating is real; it must become real.
AND THEN, YOU ARRIVE
The players. Or, as I prefer to say, the adventurers. Because you are not playing just any game.
You are adventurers in a universe that exists for you. You are Saint George, you are Arthur, Lancelot, Queen Penthesilea of the Amazons. You are the heroes of a world that needed to exist.
And you are the heroes of the solo developer. When I design, I think of the person who will live the adventures. That person will challenge monsters, overcome obstacles, and make what must happen, happen.
Thank you all for playing Caverns and Dryads, and for bringing my world into your life.
We still have a long road ahead. Let us not be lazy. Let’s go to that forest, to that fork-shaped tree, and descend together toward abandoned palaces filled with beauty and danger.
