No elves allowed here
I decided to kill the elves. Yes, there was a monster called "dark elf" in my game.
But if there's a dark elf, then I'm forced to keep the bright ones. And I never liked elves.
Elves... whenever we think of them we automatically picture Tolkien's elves.
I know some people like them, but to me they feel pompous, stuck‑up, and incredibly boring. They almost lose everything that makes fae folk interesting in the first place: their danger, their sensuality, their wild behavior. Do you hate elves the way I do?
Besides, Tolkien made them far too mundane. I know it hurts to criticize the master. I admire and love Tolkien. Don’t get me wrong. But I simply don’t like them.
They’re too mundane: blond people with pointy ears. That’s it. Perfect and polished.
There’s no wildness, no Dionysian spirit, no silly mischief, no sensuality. Everything that draws us to fae beings is missing in elves.
In my world, then, there is only one kind of creature that embodies sublime beauty, eternity, and also sensuality, earthiness, the non‑Apollonian, the wild, the inspiring, the nurturing, and the guardianship of the forest: the dryads.
They are nymphs, women, and goddesses. All at once. They hold all the beauty: the pointed ears, the aura, the eternal youth. But life pulses in them like a lovestruck heart.
They are alive; they can be playful, cruel, mischievous, wild, and strong. They have no limits. With them, my world becomes more free and more varied.
So may the elves rest in peace. They won’t be allowed here. What do you think?
