Boss monster quest generation in the works for Caverns and Dryads
As part of the features to make Caverns and Dryads more roguelike, I am adding a new type of quests.
In these, you will become the heroes who fight terrible monsters, like St. George.
I am focusing on 4 types of monsters for now (I will add more in upcoming updates):
- Dragons: in a broad sense, from large lizards with powers to a proper big, bad dragon.
- Ogres: ogres, giants, humanoid and brutal.
- Worms: from viscous aberrations to giant snakes.
- Beasts: monsters that mix several animal-like creatures or deformed beings that resemble beasts.
I think I should start with these because they are the kind of monsters found in medieval and ancient classics.
THE GENESIS OF THE MONSTER IN THESE QUESTS
My initial idea is that you will be hired to defeat these monsters by the ruler of any city. It would be cool if some cities had a tendency to hire you against a particular type.
I say tendency because the type will be randomly selected from the ones mentioned above, with some logical control.
Once I know the type, I will add the powers and attacks, vulnerabilities, and name.
Then I will scale the monster’s strength to yours, so you face a good challenge, and I’ll set the reward.
Depending on the difficulty and the type, I’ll select the appearance of the monster.
This will be very exciting!
