Darkness and fantasy: dark theme, bright heart
I think we can say that Caverns and Dryads is dark fantasy. I had my doubts.
Dark fantasy is often associated with morally grey characters, which I don’t usually enjoy.
Although I believe that “grey” should be handled with taste and nuance. My characters are not grey at all in the way the word is usually used.

CAVERNS AND DRYADS IS DARK FANTASY... BUT DIFFERENT
The simplest way for a writer to build a grey character is to stuff them with flaws to the point where no one knows why they’re supposed to be a hero.
That’s why I used to reject the concept itself. But I’ve realized that my world is more subtle, and still dark fantasy because:
- The characters are not perfect heroes. They have doubts, weaknesses, and sometimes choose poorly. But they are always noble.
- The world is dangerous, not ideal. But it's mysterious and beautiful.
- Evil and danger are part of the world. They are not always the result of corruption, but of conflict.
- Love is pure and brave, but full of difficulties.
With all this, I define Caverns and Dryads as dark fantasy with a bright heart.
So I’ll dedicate a few posts to talk more about dark fantasy.
"Darker". What is she thinking about?
WHERE THE STORY IS GOING IN PART II
The story in the second part is “Decide without fear.” And there will be fear, but they will choose bravely. You could say “despite the fear.”
It’s when you put what you love most above sensibility, reason, and everything else. Because you know it’s the right thing and what you truly need.
It will be about arrogance tempered by courage. About belonging to a home but fearing it.
And the Antagonist will appear for the first time. You can imagine who it is, but you cannot imagine the extent of their power.
There will be humor, danger, romance, and tremendous battles against horrors, just the way we like.
And with that, I’ll end this post. I’ve done what I wanted: to spark your curiosity.
Until next time, adventurers! I’m still working!
