The audacity to create: when you create against all

My first book of Caverns and Dryads is called "Love Against All". It’s about two people. Every creation process can also be an act of love. You do something out of love for creating. Then the world feels automatically offended.

But in which ways? Here’s how.

YOU DARE NOT TO BE PERFECT

This happens when society hasn’t validated you. You haven’t studied enough in an institutional place. Maybe you trained yourself. Maybe your act comes from experience.

The world wants you domesticated. You must have followed the normal channels. Your thinking must be the one validated as normal. Or you can be “not normal”, but still belong to a known category of things. Woe to you if that’s not the case!

Besides, your values, your beliefs, and your way of communicating must be something labeled. If we don’t put a label on it… what is it? Freedom?

YOU DARE FOR YOUR WORK NOT TO BE PERFECT

How dare you make something that has flaws?

However, when we create, nothing is perfect. Everything improves in layers, in successive iterations of refinement. If we don’t want to go through that, then we simply never begin.

The whole can be perfect, even if it is made of imperfect parts. Exactly like nature and like ourselves.

YOU DARE FOR YOUR WORK TO BE ORIGINAL

How dare you not follow the proportions, the rules, the known structures? Or dare to transgress what we understand as perfect? Or use cliches that the masters consider invalid?

We don’t fear what is ugly. We fear what is beautiful in another way. The uncanny valley, the sublime inhumanity.

This is what happens when you perceive something as beautiful, but it is not as you were told. The “experts” think they must find a flaw in it.

YOU DARE TO DO THINGS YOUR OWN WAY

Your way is incorrect. You must obey the master, the expert, social media, or decency. What I do is right, what you do is wrong.

How dare you follow your own path, your own faith, your own way?

YOU DARE TO CREATE WITH THE TOOLS YOU PREFER

Oil is better than gouache. Gouache is better than watercolor. Watercolor is better than pencil. Pencil is better than digital art. Digital art is better than generative art.

Unreal is better than Unity. Godot is better than everything. Python is glorious. C# is strange.

And what if we want to use everything, at once? Can we? No! You must use everything exactly as I say. If you use it differently, I’ll send you to the Inquisition.

AND NOW, NO MORE NONSENSE

If you create, create. If you admire creation, admire. To create, to live, to love... it's all the same:

Don’t care if the world is offended.

Don’t care if it’s not perfect, or good, or what others expected.

Don’t care if nobody has done it before, or if your way of doing it is different.

Don’t care if you do it differently as long as it is your way.

Even if the whole world doesn’t approve, even if it’s against everything and everyone. Do it!
