Kings of the Chasm: game art and worldbuilding of Caverns and Dryads
Hi adventurers!
I have been doing the illustrations and data of the kings of the cities in the world of Caverns and Dryads. Some gameart and worldbuiling of my dark fantasy universe doesn't harm!
The Purple King of Subterranea is similar to the Great King of Persia. In fact, he is called the Great King. Urvhal is a kind of "king of kings" or an emperor (not exactly as the system is similar to feuds). Then, each minor king rules on a territory on the surface and a city inside the Chasm. There are other kings on the surface, but you won't see them for now.
Yeah, as this is supposed to be fantasy and it's not our world, I just show you what I envision. It doesn't have to be exactly like any other known system or kingdom on Earth.
As I am adding the palaces of these minor kings for adding more quests to the game, here I will show you three of them:
Rylander, The Evergreen King - named for his longevity. King of City of the Woods.
- An elderly man with silver hair and a long white beard. Pale skin.
- His crown is made of wood, set with amber stones. The throne room is crafted from wood and vines.
- Nasal, trembling voice.
- Dressed in green.
- His budget is low.
- The city thrives on trade with the outside world, as the elevator is less severe and more accessible. They are also largely self-sustaining, living off foraging, farming, and livestock raising.
- Dryads: Maintains the cult of the dryads and welcomes them. Reveres the old ways.
- Mages: Distrustful of them, out of sympathy for the dryads due to the Council's enmity.
- Relationship with the Great Purple King: Good, although he dislikes visiting him due to excessive pomp and splendor. He believes King Urvhal keeps the Council's excesses in check.
Oromel VI, the Wise King of Grottohaven.
- Bald, tall but not excessively so, robust build.
- Long turquoise robes. Gold crown set with aquamarines.
- Solemn, serious disposition.
- Lover of culture and philosophy.
- Neither overly generous nor stingy.
- Dryads: In line with Somon de Grutavilla, he respects them.
- Mages: Does not judge them as individuals, but believes their stance regarding the dryads is misguided.
- Tamzyn and Sioul: Does not understand the conflict, but believes they are playing with fire and that their relationship carries existential dangers (eternity vs. mortality).
- Relationship with the Great Purple King: Good, loyal out of a commitment to order, and because he regards the King as a great statesman.
Baron Linnaun of the Shadowlands. Ruler of Nocturna.
- He is not a king of vast lands like the others. Instead, this city is part of the barony he manages on the surface.
- He is slender, of good posture, around forty years old, with a short black beard and mustache, and dark eyes.
- He wears noble attire but wears no crown.
- Kind demeanor, yet tough and implacable. He has come down to the city temporarily, "he says," to oversee his governor and try to bring order to the local crime.
- The city has no resources; it is poor and cannot offer major rewards.
- Dryads: Suppressed fear.
- Mages: Fear as well.
- Conflict: Wants no part in it.
- Relationship with Urvhal: Tries to ensure people speak well of him to Urvhal in hopes of a promotion in rank or responsibilities.
