Subterranean Weekly Notes - May 1st, 2026
All of us pour our thoughts into social networks, where they end up falling through the internet’s drain into the sea of oblivion. Instead of doing that, I’ll publish this kind of post every week. Here I can give you a glimpse of my thoughts.
I WENT TO SOCIAL MEDIA... AND LEFT AGAIN
I recently recovered my Threads account. It’s a curious place. There are interesting people. But the background is too white, and the letters are as black as a doomed soul.
If you want to be insulted by random strangers or argue as if there were no tomorrow, join Threads. I just left, and deleted my account again.
I can also recommend other social sites:
- Reddit if you want to argue 24 hours a day and get caught in massive verbal battles.
- Facebook if you enjoy watching ads.
- Instagram if you want to be invisible.
- Bluesky if you’re a developer and want to speak into the void where not a single player exists.
Or you can make yourself a blog so none of this happens. That’s why this kind of post is born.
I’ve decided to put here the things I would normally throw into a social site. Better in your own place than in the domain of some sinister millionaire.
The disadvantage: less promotion. So if you love the game, a review on Steam helps a lot. And I read them and take suggestions too! :)
ETERNITY
I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of eternity. I’m going to write a post about this. I think immortal creatures were very well developed by Anne Rice. But they were dead.
There is another kind of immortality that isn’t about vampires: the ones who are alive.
What we’ve seen in fantasy embodying this are elves. Tolkien-style: stiff, perfect, Apollonian, ethereal.
However, in Caverns and Dryads there are no elves, because I don’t like them. There are dryads. They are eternal, exuberant, vital, Dionysian, elevated yet earthly. They are an oak with its roots in the mud and its branches in the sky.
Vampires are undead, elves are immortal, and dryads are eternal. That's the difference.
I’ll talk to you in another post about their eternity and how these eternal beings live, how they feel, and how they act according to their immortality.
"Princess of the woods". Model is Tamzyn as always.
THE NECRIAS
Just today I posted on Steam about a new feature I’m developing, and I’ll be adding it to the game soon.
I’ll tell you more about them in an upcoming post.
I’m also going to add monsters to defeat in procedural missions. This way the world will always remain challenging for the bravest players.
THE DAUGHTERS OF FIRE
And I’m going to tell you why they are called that. I think I haven’t done enough reflection and lore about the dryads. “Come on,” you’ll say. But yes.
There is so much I have to tell you… We’re going to talk about them these weeks. Especially why they are called that, since it may seem whimsical or contradictory. And it isn’t.
Well, I hope I’ve intrigued you. See you soon!
